Celebrate Cinco de Mayo (May 5) with a Meri Meri papel picado garland

Cinco de Mayo is an annual event which commemorates the date of Mexico’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla. It’s a large, colorful celebration of Mexican culture and heritage. People attend parades with Mexican folk dancing, mariachi bands and traditional Mexican food. In Puebla, locals take part in a big parade, dressing as French and American soldiers to re-enact the war.

Papel picado (which means ‘punched paper’) is a traditional cut paper folk art and the colorful banners are used to decorate streets and houses.

You Will Need:

• Printer
• Paper or lightweight card
• Scissors
• Glue or sticky tape
• String or ribbon

How to Make:

Print out our Picado pennants - there are two sizes to choose from.
Cut out around each pennant carefully and fold along the dotted line.
Attach each pennant to a length of string or ribbon by gluing behind the fold or using sticky tape.
